Alright so admittedly I have not been as diligent with the blog as I would like, I think some of that stems from my complete and utter lack of knowledge when it comes to HTML, but it's just another area of self improvement right? and I probably need to be less lazy.
I will be posting a "FlashBack Friday" tomorrow since I aquired the picture that I really wanted to kick the whole thing off with, oh it's a juicy one.
I also stumbled upon a great blog swap thingy here http://www.backtack.blogspot.com/ ... Basically the interwebs is filled with amazingly talented lovely crafters who like to swap their goodies for other goodies. This blog will allow me to participate in the Gold Frankicence and Myrrh Christmas swap which already has crafty ideas running through my head.
Even before discovering the swap my sister Avery (who is much more talented than I) proposed another crafty endeavor for us. A few years ago we got the great idea to make shrunken heads by taking small balloons and covering them with papermache then covering the dry "balloons" with plasticine for a leathery skin, and using chunky brown yarn for dreadlocked hair etc. These slightly creepy but fantastically wonderful dudes still rest on top of the entertainment unit in our apartment. Using the 'mache medium she wants to construct a large animal (pig, dog, dear??) shaped pinata. I am unsure if this is a purely decorative undertaking or if we will actually smash hours of our hard work to pieces. Either way I get to spend some serious crafty time with my not so little sister and that's the best part. We seem to have broadened our creative scope over the past couple years. We were on a big sewing kick last year and I have 2 vintage sewing machines from the thrift store to mark that phase althought we both greatly enjoy hand sewing 99% of the things we make.
Our latest obsession is making necklaces... again Avery was the catalyst. Our step-mother showed her an Avon catalouge with a necklace that she bought and then promptly declared she could make one way better. And she did. She got really good then I got interested because who doesn't love custom jewlery? She patiently combined the elements I wanted into a necklace as I made the "shishkebobs". Then she refused to assemble anymore necklaces for me and told me to "figure it out". I did and now I am crafting lovely custom necklaces just as she is.
